Matt Skinner
Matt Skinner believes that wine is for everybody.
His refreshing approach to what has often been seen as a stuffy subject has won legions of fans and introduced a whole new generation to the pleasures of a good bottle.
Now one of the rising stars of the wine world, Matt originally stumbled across wine in his native Melbourne, Australia, through a night job in a bottle shop (a kind of drive-in off license). He ended up falling in love with it. Going on to complete a prestigious training course, Matt was working in the Australian wine industry in 2002 when he was invited by Jamie Oliver to come to London and head up wine at his new restaurant, Fifteen.
Since then, Matt has become an increasingly familiar face to British television audiences, appearing regularly on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and now appearing fortnightly on ITV’s Saturday Cooks! Alongside his continuing role as wine columnist for jamieoliver.com, he has also written for Decanter, Wine, GQ and delicious.
In Autumn 2005 Matt added ‘author’ to his growing list of achievements, when Mitchell Beazley published his first two books: Thirsty Work, a serious but unpretentious introduction to wine based on the way he teaches the subject to his students at Fifteen, and The Juice, Matt’s salute to the top 100 bottles of the year. Both books quickly became bestsellers, with The Juice now an annual series.
